Drag and drop

Dropping an image file onto the editor is the fastest path to import. The drop target is the entire canvas region.

  1. A dashed-border overlay appears the moment your cursor enters the canvas region with a file in hand. “Drop to import” is the cue.
  2. Release the file. A small Drop mode picker modal opens.
  3. Pick the destination:
    • Import as New Layer on the active asset
    • Use as Reference Image for tracing
    • Import as Tileset - slice the image into ready-to-stamp tiles (shown in packs with a tile workflow; see Import a tileset)
  4. Click and the import resolves - for the layer path, the same resize / crop prompt as the File → Import as New Layer… path appears.

Same as the Import menu paths:

  • PNG, JPEG, WEBP
  • 4 MB max

Files outside the bounds are rejected with an inline error.

Hexcalibur reads only the first file from a multi-file drop.
